Background

Mieke van der Bijl-Brouwer (1975) is an assistant professor and member of the Use Anticipation in Product Design research group of the faculty of Engineering Technology at the University of Twente. Her research focuses at how designers deal with ‘dynamic and diverse use situations’ which occur when products are used for varying purposes, by varying people and/ or in varying contexts. Her research resulted in a set of guidelines for a design approach which supports exploring usability for different situations, creating an explicit frame of reference of different use situations and applying this frame of reference in usability evaluations. She also collaborated in the development of the Envisioning Use workshop which supports design teams in creating a common vision on product use. She combines her research with education in the field of industrial design, usability and scenario-based design.

Involvement

Within this project Mieke Van der Bijl-Brouwer will continue her research regarding dynamic use situations.
