About Abbie Vanhoutte MSc & Robert Eijlander MSc
Robert and Abbie both work at Océ Design. This in-house design department is embedded within R&D, meaning that the designers are actively involved and integrated within the development teams, directed strongly to both the products and the business strategy. Océ has a long design history and an acclaimed reputation, resulting in numerous international design awards, a.o. the 2008 Norman Nielsen Group award for one of the ten best designed applications.
As an interaction designer, Robert focuses on optimal task support for the user and a pleasant user experience with increasingly complex systems. He represents the end-user and designs user interfaces for all parts of the document systems, both hard- and software.
As a usability engineer, Abbie validates the usability of Océ’s products through usability tests, expert reviews and other user research methods. This is done in all the phases of the development process, to enable early user feedback and to put products in a user perspective. By gathering and effectively transferring user-knowledge, she supports designers and engineers to develop better, more user-friendly products.
Robert and Abbie both hold a Master of Science degree from TUDelft, faculty of Industrial Design Engineering. Robert joined Océ in 2000, after graduating within the company on workflow software for reproduction site operators. During her graduation project, Abbie developed an interactive playing object for KOMPAN A/S via a user centered design process. After her graduation in 2006, she worked on usability related projects at TUDelft and joined Océ in 2007.
