Workshop 1 (FULL):
The User Centered Experience
An interactive workshop in which you can experience a typical ‘User Centered Design’ cycle
Different teams work on a design assignment for a user interface. By means of quick prototyping, each design will be evaluated in a usability test, by participants from the other teams. During these sessions, you will be supported by practical expertise. Experience how useful, fun and surprising it is to observe how users interact with your design.
| By: | Océ-Technologies B.V.: Abbie Vanhoutte & Robert Eijlander, usability engineer and interaction designer at Océ Design |
| For: | (design) students and professionals who want to increase their skills and knowledge of user centered design |
| Max: | 10-15 persons |
Workshop 2 (FULL)::
Managing Design for Usability in practice
Professional debate on effectively addressing usability risks and opportunities.
How professionals in product development effectively address usability risks and opportunities. Having a clear understanding of usability opportunities and risks, at the START of a product development project is crucial for planning the development approach and budget. The workshop participants are all active in developing products with excellence in usability. Either as product manager (client) or product developer (design agency). Together we will explore opportunities for increasing the effectiveness of Design for Usability. We will use this workshop to formulate explicit steps towards more effective and efficient development of innovative and usable products.

Workshop 3 (FULL):
Advanced user research and evaluation
How to get the best and most out of user research and evaluation
Learn about and experience advanced user research and evaluation methods, how to tackle organizational issues when conducting such studies, and how to communicate the results effectively. The workshop is led by experts in Human Centred Design from P5 consultants, who are experienced in tailoring methods and approaches for user research and evaluation to a variety of clients and thus contexts.

| Max: | 20 persons |
Workshop 4 (FULL):
Guiding and changing user behavior
Improving design by learning to assess how products change users
Anticipating how products guide and change user behavior helps preventing undesired user behavior. The workshop will first introduce basic concepts about product impact on user behavior. Participants will then engage in a session of “reverse thinking”: not about what people should do with products, but what products do with users.

| For: | everyone |
| Max: | 10-40 persons |
Workshop 5 (FULL)::
The usability runway
A practical introduction in approaching usability related design assignments
The workshop introduces the basics of design for usability by means of a lecture and some group assignments. Participants will experience how to define approaches regarding usability related design assignments. Additionally they will be exposed to a new way on managing design information.

| For: | all-round product designers, project managers, design students |
| Max: | 20 persons |
Workshop 6 (FULL):
Small usability techniques
Practical application and added value of ‘small usability techniques’ in design
‘small usability techniques’ are fast and cheap qualitative ways to evaluate the usability of a design proposal. They include role-playing, scenario-based design and small-scale use testing (e.g. with colleagues). The techniques are discussed and experienced hands-on so that participants can gain insight into their practical application, added value and fit with more formal usability testing.

Workshop 7 (FULL):
Toolbox for Usability
Learn about the MUST tool: managing usability information & supporting decision-making
In this workshop researchers will share with you a preliminary version of a tool that manages usability information and supports the decision-making process concerning usability: the “Management Usability Support Tool”. The output of the tool is based on research results and company input. How this tool works especially for your company will be discussed during the workshop.
